Each participant may prepare a short presentation on just about anything (a book, celebrity, demonstration, dish/recipe, game, history, hobby, joke, movie, news item, poem, sci/tech, song, sport, story). This may be from 1 to 5 minutes in length. It can be almost anything you like. The subject matter may be somewhat controversial, off-color, or political, but the presentation should not be degrading, incendiary, or mean-spirited. Also, you shouldn’t explicitly be selling anything. After each talk, we may have up to 10 minutes of questions and discussion (in Mandarin).
We may do listening practice based on various web-based materials such as comedy shows, cooking shows, culture/history lessons, documentary films/series, music videos, news broadcasts, vlogs, or web series. This may include repeated listening, comprehension quizzes, discussion/clarification, identification of regional accents/differences, and conversation practice.
When you RSVP, please indicate in the comments section whether you intend to do a presentation. Please finalize your RSVP with the Austin Chinese Language and Culture Group by Saturday.
