So this is from our daughters classroom weekly e-mail and really captures why I love this school so much:

In First Grade this week, we worked on our emotional intelligence and mindfulness skills. We started the class by playing “emotion charades,” which the students were given an emotion and needed to act it out silently. After the emotion, we identified if the emotion is pleasant, unpleasant, or both. After playing “emotion charades,” we took a silent mindfulness walk outside and noticed the nature around the playground and the clouds in the sky. The students returned to their class and drew a picture of something they noticed on their walk that they never noticed before. The students created beautiful drawings and seemed to enjoy both activities.
