“Becker Elementary, the oldest elementary school in South Austin, is in the heart of the Bouldin Creek Neighborhood. It is one of only a small group of AISD Two-Way Dual Language (DL) schools… Dual Language is an educational model in which both native English speakers and native Spanish speakers receive instruction together in both languages, which results in higher academic achievement, improved acquisition of English, the development of academic Spanish, and cross-cultural understanding for all the students. Language learning takes place primarily through the instruction of academic subject matter. Linguistic proficiency in both languages is developed as students increase their knowledge of subject matter through performing academic tasks.” Becker Elementary accepts transfers. Reilly Elementary is located on the corner of Guadalupe Street and Denson Street, just north of the University of Texas, a few blocks from the Austin Community College Highland Mall campus and directly across the street from the Texas Department of Public Safety headquarters. Our student population is 238 students in grades Pre-K to Fifth Grade. This small population is what makes our school a warm and supportive learning environment. 91% of our students come from low income families and 71% are native Spanish speakers who are learning English as a second language. The other foreign languages spoken by Reilly families are Burmese, Arabic and Farsi. The academic support programs offered at Reilly include a dual language bilingual Spanish program, a Dual Language Mandarin Program, Social Emotional Learning, Creative Learning Initiative and Austin Partners in Education Classroom Coaching program. Our proximity to the Texas Department of Public Safety has blessed us with a highly successful mentoring program. In the 2013-2014 school year, Reilly was one of only six AISD elementary schools awarded six out of six possible academic distinctions by the Texas Education Agency. Our school mascot is the Mustang and our school colors are blue and white. Keywords: Dual […] TweetEmail

Elementary dual-language program K-4. “KACD follows a school-wide, 50/50, two-way dual language program. Students spend about half of their instructional day learning content (literacy, math, science, social studies) in the English language and half of their instructional day learning content in the Spanish language. At KACD, we value children reading, writing, and speaking in Spanish as much as they are learning to do so in English. We uphold high expectations for students in both languages and in all content areas with individual student benchmarks, as well as school-wide, grade level-specific, end-of-year, and growth goals.” TweetEmail TweetEmail
