LLILAS Benson announces the 2016 Lozano Long Conference, Derechos en Crisis: Refugees, Migrant Detention, and Authoritarian Neoliberalism.
In light of renewed nativist cries for a crackdown against refugees and the deteriorating public security situation in Mexico and Central America, this conference will convene scholars from diverse disciplines with migrant and refugee advocates and organizations from across the Americas to debate and discuss the politics of asylum, migrant detention, and the structural conditions displacing forced migrants from the Mesoamerican region.
Conference coordinators are Alfonso Gonzales (LLILAS, Mexican American & Latina/o Studies) and Rebecca M. Torres (Geography & the Environment).
