Five Years Later: Egypt After the Arab Spring

Thursday, February 11 at 5:00pm

Liberal Arts Building (CLA), 1.302E 305 23RD ST E, Austin, Texas 78712

It has been five years since Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak resigned during the Arab Spring in 2011. Since then, significant transformations in the Egyptian political landscape have taken place. The most notable of these was the removal of President Mohamed Morsi from office by the Egyptian military in 2013. This panel will address the future of Islamist politics, secular political parties, and military hegemony over the political process in Egypt, asking: what is Egypt’s future following the Arab Spring?
