Born to Indian music legend Haafiz Ali Khan and heir to illustrious musical lineage that invented the instrument itself, Khan gave his first recital at age 6 and was a national celebrity by his teens. Marked by a plaintive, almost voice-like sonority and nearly superhuman speed and clarity, Khan’s artistry has gathered legions of fans from all corners of the globe. Over his illustrious career he has recorded dozens of genre-defining albums and received an impressive collection of awards, including the UNESCO Award, the Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government and the Padma Vibhushan, the highest civilian honor awarded by the government of India.
