On Aug 13, 2016, Indian-Americans in Austin will come together to celebrate the inclusion of their Heritage at the historic Texas State Capitol south steps. The Parade of India is a festival of Cultural Diversity in Texas. It is open to all and no tickets are needed to attend this family-friendly event at 10 AM on Saturday morning.
The program will start with performances of the U.S. and Indian national anthems, speeches by local Dignitaries, Bollywood Dances by students of Monsoon Dance & the Parade on the Great Walk of the Capitol. There will several information booths along with free Indian food samples & henna artists.
India proclaimed its independence on Aug 15, 1947 and this event is in honor of India’s 70th Independence Day. Our sponsor from the Texas House of Representatives, Celia Israel of House District 50, and the City of Austin Mayor, Steve Adler, are scheduled to address the audience.
The Parade of India is hosted by Monsoon Dance in partnership with the Indian American Coalition of Texas (IACT), South Asian Austin Moms (SAAM) & Children Rights and You (CRY) – Austin Chapter.

The parade will showcase groups representing the unique costumes, music and dances from each State in India and local organizations of Indian origin. The parade will be led by Riti Chikerrur who was Ms. International 2014 and a former Miss India title winner.
The Republic of Food (ROF) will be bringing their food truck to add Indian spices and flavors to the Parade of India. They have a special menu for all revelers attending the Parade. The Parade of India is also sponsored by Greater Austin Insurance Network (GAIN), Ashna Modh with Keller Williams Realty, Dhoom Productions, Skypass Travels and Gujrat Auto.
