Russia and the “West” have attracted, repelled, and haunted each other as cultural, ideological or geopolitical specters sine the Middle Ages.  This symposium provides an interdisciplinary engagement of the Russian relationship to the “West”– in its European and later Euro-American incarnation– as a product of this long and complicated set of encounters and confrontations.  Featured scholars will engage the methods of literary and cultural studies, historical inquiry and policy analysis to offer i ]nsight and answer questions on the conundrum of Russian-Western cultural dialogues, transnational interactions and contemporary policy implications.
