Bring the joy of art to kids!

Do you speak Spanish and wish to put your language to good use?  Volunteer with the Bilingual Education Project at the Blanton Museum of Art and tell others you know to do the same.

It is easy to do!  The time commitment is very flexible!  Moreover, you will be giving the gift of the arts to many underprivileged children in the local school districts.

Think Bilingual Austin is working with the Blanton Museum of Art to find community volunteers to help with the Blanton Museum’s co-teaching bilingual education project so that more children from Title 1 schools and dual language schools in AISD and neighboring districts can experience meaningful learning in the arts in the language they express themselves in best.

Spanish/English is the first co-teaching bilingual model at this time.  However,  we hope that with success and in time, we can work with the Blanton Museum and AISD to add other languages to serve other populations who also speak a native language other than English.

How to volunteer?

1. Sign up to attend a co-teaching workshop at the Blanton:

The Blanton Museum of Art will provide a 2 hour workshop for a minimum of 4 interested volunteers.  The workshop will prepare volunteers on how to teach with art, using visual thinking strategies and providing a greater understanding on how and why art is used in learning. The workshop will also prepare volunteers for leading school field trips under a co-teaching model, whereby one person presents the information in English and the other presents it in Spanish in a 50%/50% model for each language.

To be included in an upcoming workshop, please send an email to and include a note that you are interested in volunteering for the Bilingual Education Project at the Blanton Museum of Art along with a contact phone number where we may reach you.  We need at least 4 volunteers to hold a workshop, so invite others you think may be interested in participating too!

2. Commit to volunteering at least four Fridays during the academic year.

The program time for co-teaching for school field-trips is scheduled on Fridays between 10 am – 12:30 pm.  As a volunteer, you can choose the Fridays that work best for you!
